4 Signs You Need to Call a Well Pump Service

July 17, 2023

Plumbing is one of the many great developments that make a society a modern one. Clean hot or cold water that you can draw on demand is one of society's greatest accomplishments, and a well pump helps to make it happen. According to Inspectapedia, a water well pump should have a service life of about 10 years, but it needs occasional maintenance. If you have a water well whose flow seems low, here are four signs that you need to hire a well pump service.

1. Your Faucets Do Not Draw Water

The most obvious sign that you have a problem with your water pump is when there is no water flowing to your faucets or toilets. A water pump should maintain consistent water pressure and ensure continuous flow when the tap is on. If you have no water flowing from your well, you should schedule a
well pump service as soon as possible to restore your water flow. Going without water for even a short period might lead to poor hygiene and related health problems.

2. Water Pipes Have Air in Them

You might turn on a faucet and see water spitting out of it at an uneven rate. You also might hear a thumping sound as the water stops and starts over and over. Those are telltale signs of air in your water pipes. Air in your water pipes might indicate a bad seal or another problem with the pump. A faulty pump is often the cause, which a well pump service could diagnose and fix as quickly as possible.

3. Water Pressure Is Low

A defective water pump often will have difficulty maintaining consistent water pressure. If you notice your water flow is lower than normal, a water pump service could inspect the pump and fix any problems that it might have. Restoring your water flow will help make the shower work better, ensure your faucets and toilets are working, and keep your clothes clean by making sure the washer draws the amount of water that it needs.

4. Noisy Pump Runs Continuously

If your water pump runs continuously, it likely has a problem. The same is true if you hear it making odd noises. A water pump should be quiet when operating and stop when the water pressure is normal. When it runs all of the time or makes noise, a well pump service can fix it.
